I was dwelling on Psalm 112 recently and thought of three aspects of a man. I thought I'd share for other men out there looking to improve. Psalm 112
"1 Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who delights greatly in His commandments. 2 His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever. 4 Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness; He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous. 5 A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion. 6 Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance. 7 He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. 8 His heart is established; He will not be afraid, Until he sees his desire upon his enemies. 9 He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted with honor. 10 The wicked will see it and be grieved; He will gnash his teeth and melt away; The desire of the wicked shall perish." Reliable: the Godly man is steady, consistent, punctual and has a reputation of durability. He is known and remembered for righteousness even for multiple generations. A boy is volatile, inconsistent, and always late- he has cultivated a reputation of being a flake. He's barely known at all, folks try to forget him, he'll be lucky if his grand-kids know his name. Grounded: the Godly man is grounded by a love for the commandments of God. He is the first to laugh and the last to cry. His opinions are taken seriously since they aren't dulled by an over-brandishing of emotions. When he raises his voice people get scared, because he rarely does so. A boy is easily moved, his plans mean nothing. Everyone always knows what he's thinking because his emotions are vomited out at every whim. No one wants to hear him speak, even his family is afraid to tell him things for fear of his boyish responses. Goal-oriented: a Godly man has a mission, goal and plan to accomplish it. He can stay up late, get up early, and work till he sees his goals accomplished. A boy sometimes knows what he'll do a week in advance, but it may change. His goals are childish, his plans are non-existent. He has no motivation besides his feelings. Sola Deo Gloria
